Car ploughs into wedding guests outside Edmonton venue
Several people were hurt, including a child, after vehicle mounts pavement outside a wedding hall on Saturday
A driver has been arrested after a car struck a group of people gathered outside a wedding venue in Edmonton late on Saturday evening.
The incident happened at around 11pm outside Prince and Princess Wedding Hall on Princes Road on 31st May.
Those hit had been standing on the pavement when the vehicle accelerated into the crowd, coming to a stop after striking both the group and the building before reversing away.
Eight people were injured, among them a four-year-old girl. Several are understood to have suffered broken bones, with at least one woman sustaining fractures to both legs. Video circulating on social media appears to show the car being steered deliberately toward the group before accelerating.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Officers attended alongside the London Ambulance Service, who treated eight people at the scene. Two women, aged 54 and 38, and a four-year-old girl were taken to hospital. Their injuries have since been assessed as neither life-threatening nor life-changing.
“A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was taken to custody and has since been released on police bail, pending further investigation.”
